The LinkedIn Workplace Learning Report (LWLR) for 2024 revealed that 90% of organisations are concerned about employee retention.
Hence, they use corporate learning as an effective retention strategy.
G&G CEO Michael Gullan explained how organisations can level up employee development, retention and business success.
G&G is an eLearning consultancy organisation.
“With the right strategy, employee development can lead to enhanced performance and, ultimately, business growth,” said Gullan.
Gullan outlined some key eLearning trends to look out for in 2025, noting that “growth energises employees and inspires them to stay and grow with the organisation”.
1. Support business strategy
eLearning will be used successfully for much more than onboarding and compliance.
Gullan explained more organisations will use eLearning to develop their workforce and other stakeholders into a robust unified force that drives the organisation toward its goals.
“eLearning has gone beyond being a tool for effective onboarding, compliance, and process training to a strategic investment that when aligned with the business strategy, can propel a business to reach and even surpass its goals,” said Gullan.
2. A place at the table
The LinkedIn Executive Confidence Index reported that 90% of global key decision-makers plan to increase their investment in L&D in the next six months.
This is because company leaders are appreciating the significant return on their eLearning investments, said Gullan.
Gullan added that more conversations about eLearning are expected to take place this year at a senior level.
“Key decision-makers will interrogate and refine their eLearning programs to achieve better outcomes and support their growth strategy,” said Gullan.
3. Amplify connection and purpose
The LWLR 2024 indicated that 70% of employees believe that learning connects them to their organisation, while 80% said that learning adds purpose to their work.
These statistics support the base that more organisations will use eLearning to strengthen collaboration, create meaning, enhance connections, and build culture in the workplace.
“When people learn new skills and grow in their roles, they want to share it with others. Employees empowered with new skills and clarity on the company’s goals will be active collaborators in its success,” said Gullan.
4. Coaching at scale
Gullan pointed out that coaching and mentoring empowers, builds skills, and progresses employees’ careers.
The LWLR 2024 reported that 47% of organisations believe in and invest in career mentoring and coaching to boost employee retention.
“eLearning allows organisations to offer coaching, mentoring, and problem-solving support at scale throughout the organisation, without the burden and drain on managers and leaders.
“We’ll see more organisations using this strategy in 2025 and beyond,” said Gullan.
5. Eliminate glass ceilings
Gullan mentioned more organisations will look to developing existing employees instead of hiring new talent, as internal mobility is key to retaining and developing employees into star performers.
“Organisations that encourage internal mobility enjoy far higher retention rates, a more agile workforce, and employees with profound cross-functional knowledge,” said Gullan.
When a company fails to develop its employees skills, people try to find better employment opportunities elsewhere.
