The Tankwa isn’t just another cycling race. It’s a punishing 230km or 500km single-stage, semi-supported endurance challenge that pushes riders to their absolute limits. Set against the vast, rugged terrain of the Tankwa Karoo, competitors will face extreme heat, brutal climbs, and the harsh beauty of one of the country’s most remote regions.

With five strategically placed race villages along the route offering food, a place to rest, and mechanical support, riders must rely on their own grit and determination to complete this daunting course. This goes far beyond an endurance race. It’s about conquering the elements, yourself, and the unforgiving Tankwa terrain.

This year's race takes place between April 11-13 in the Tankwa Karoo National Park in sunny South Africa, situated, roughly, at the midpoint between Clavinia, Sutherland, and Clanwilliam on the border between the Northern- and Western Cape.

What is the Munga Squad Series?

Designed for gravel grinders, road cyclists, mountain bikers, and even e-bikers, the Munga Squad Series is an electrifying 100km-130km team-based endurance race. This event involves navigating tricky mountain bike trails, but beyond that, it’s about tackling long distances, working together, and pushing through the pain as a squad.

How It Works:

Teams consist of five riders. There are Men's Teams, Women's Teams and Mixed Teams, with a minimum od two riders of the opposite sex.

In order to conquer the challenge, at least four of the five riders must finish together. Which means that teamwork is ultra-important,

The route starts and finishes near Alfa Petro Port Arms, featuring stunning, open gravel roads.

Entry Fees: Early Bird: R2,500 per team (five riders); Standard: R3,000 per team (five riders).
