THE eThekwini Municipality emergency and electricity contact centre telephone numbers are currently offline.

Nondumiso Mathomane, spokesperson for the municipality said there was a technical issue which affected the telephone lines.

"The public will not be able to contact the electricity contact centre's toll-free number, but can report electricity faults and outages by emailing electricity.faults@durban.gov.za. New faults can also be logged via the WhatsApp chatbot on 076 791 2449".

Alternatively, residents can click on https://webfaults.durban.gov.za/WebsiteFaultsEllipseProd/Home/Create or use the city’s mobile app and track the progress of their reported faults until their power is restored.

Mathomane said a team was working to resolve the issue.

To report emergencies currently, residents can call (031) 3224457.
