DURBAN’S elite will soon be sleeping under luxurious silk and cashmere duvets worth R50 000 or will sip on R21 000 cups of tea as Italy’s finest Versace homeware range hits the city.
The products will be launched at the Oyster Box Hotel in uMhlanga today by local Versace queen, Sita Hiralal.
Anything Versace - whether it is cushions, robes, bedroom slippers, cutlery or crockery - will now be available for the first time in Durban.
A six piece crockery set inclusive of a plate, side plate and soup bowl will cost you about R40 000.
Even if you want to wrap the walls of your home in Versace, Hiralal has just introduced a range of wallpapers straight from Milan, Italy to your doorstep. And if you were considering taking tea drinking to a designer level, one Versace cup and saucer would cost you around R3 500, or R21 000 for the set of six.
Hiralal, who is the only person authorised to sell Versace in KwaZulu-Natal, said that while many people believed that there wasn’t a demand for high-end designer products in the province, there was actually a flourishing, untapped market that existed in the city.
Among Hiralal’s existing clientele are politicians, celebrities, top executives, presidents as well as prominent entrepreneurs.
Hiralal, who runs her designer store called the Style Network in uMhlanga with husband Jitesh Hiralal, said the homeware range was introduced to Durban so Versace fans could design their home interiors using the brand without having to travel far.
“I have already done the complete interior decorating for some homes using all the products from the Versace homeware range. I am working on a stunning apartment at the Pearls of uMhlanga.
“Because most of my clients are long-standing, I know what their taste is and this makes it easier for me to transform their homes.”
Hiralal, who has always been a fan of Versace, started her business eight years ago when she visited Milan.
She said there was a need to bring the brand to Durban as those who wanted to shop for Versace products, had to travel to Joburg.
