Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have confirmed the arrival of Sipho Mbule, securing the midfielder’s signature in a move that signals their intent to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

Mbule joins the Buccaneers following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns, where he struggled for consistent game time despite his undeniable talent. The 27-year old will be looking to reignite his career in Soweto and live up to the early promise that once made him one of the country’s most talked-about young prospects.

Pirates have been in the market for a dynamic and creative midfielder following the exit of several squad members, and Mbule fits the bill with his flair, passing range and ability to dictate the tempo from deep.

The club announced his signing on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming him as a key addition to the engine room.

“We are delighted to have Sipho join the team,” a club official said.

Mbule’s arrival comes at a time of transition at Pirates, with new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou preparing for his first season in charge.  The former Marumo Gallants mentor is known for his structured approach and emphasis on tactical discipline — and the signing of Mbule aligns with that vision.

The former SuperSport United star will also bring valuable experience, having played in both domestic and continental competitions. His ability to operate as a box-to-box midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker, gives Ouaddou tactical flexibility as the Buccaneers prepare for a demanding campaign.

Pirates are expected to make more signings in the coming weeks, but Mbule’s acquisition already feels like one of the standout deals of the off-season.
