Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi said the club should have done more to sign former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu.
After months as a free agent, Zungu earlier this week completed a free transfer move to Durban club AmaZulu despite being linked with the Soweto giants, who were on the market for a holding midfielder.
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FC, Baloyi said Zungu's experience would have been useful in a young squad like Kaizer Chiefs'.
“I’ve said it in the last six months that I’m a big fan of Bongani, I believe that’s the type of player that Chiefs should’ve signed,” Baloyi said on the radio station.
“But I don’t know what they thinking but these are types of players that when you look at the young players you need to blend experience with youth.
“A lot of those young players they can learn a lot from Bongani, not only that but there’s a still a lot that he can give.”
Zungu, who has also played in Portugal, France and Scotland, left Sundowns after helping the club win a seventh straight league title last season.
Since then, he has been linked with a host of clubs in South Africa and on the continent, but he decided to take his services to AmaZulu.
Speaking on that decision, Zungu said: "Everywhere I’ve played, I’ve managed to win trophies, and I want to bring that same winning mentality here. I know what it takes to win, and it’s my aim.
“I’m also thrilled to be coached by Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi.
“I’ve watched AmaZulu’s games, and the team players the modern game. My understanding of the game will help the team, but I know I have to work hard to earn my place.”
