Legendary Hollywood actor Gary Oldman says he would rather see Manchester United back to their best than win another Oscar during his career.
The 67-year-old was speaking on the Manchester United Die Hard Fans podcast when he made the startling claim.
Of course, United have been a shadow of the side they were under coach Alex Ferguson.
One of the most famous achievements for United and Ferguson was winning their treble of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles in 1999.
Running the interview with Oldman was former England striker Peter Crouch, who is these days known for his humour online. He posed a number of quick-fire questions to the actor.
The highlight was the question: Would you rather win another Oscar or United win the treble again?
To which Oldman replied after a long pause: “Oh, that’s unfair. No, I would love to see United win the treble again. Oh, yes.”
Oldman has been nominated for Best Actor at the Oscar three times, winning the award in 2017 for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the 2017 film Darkest Hour.
Oldman is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, having made his film debut way back in 1982.
Among the other interesting questions posed to Oldman during the interview, here are the highlights:
Crouch: Who’s more intimidating, Alex Ferguson or Francis Ford Coppola?
Oldman: Alex Ferguson
Crouch: What’s more dramatic, a last-minute United winner or a plot twist on screen?
Oldman: Last-minute United winner.
Crouch: Better at speeches, Jackson Lamb or Fergie?
Oldman: Fergie.
Crouch: Premier League or Hollywood, which is more of a soap opera?
Oldman: Premier League.
