THE NORTHERN Cape Bowls Open Masters Championships recently concluded with thrilling finales that captivated the audience and showcased the remarkable skills of the participants.
In the Men’s final, CP Mathewson once again demonstrated why he is considered a formidable force on the NC bowls scene after clinching the title, but not without a hard-fought battle against Barry Minopetros.
Mathewson started strong, quickly building a comfortable lead. However, Minopetros would not allow the early setback to rattle him, gradually narrowing the gap, and eventually overtaking Mathewson to take a 17-14 lead.
Yet, despite the pressure, Mathewson maintained his composure and managed to close out the game, securing his victory. The final was a spectacular display of talent and determination from both players, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats.
On the neighbouring rink, the Women’s final saw Malandi Lambrechts from Victoria West facing off against Annatjie McLeod from Bloemhof.
This match, like the Men’s final, was equally intense and closely contested with Lambrechts, showing exceptional skill and concentration, helping her ultimately emerge as the champion. Her victory spoke volumes about her determination and prowess on the green.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s play-off for third place, Quinton Kock from Hanover edged out Danie Koekemoer from Hartswater in a tightly contested match. Kock’s performance secured him a well-deserved spot on the podium.
The Women’s third-place play-off featured Marietjie van den Berg, who triumphed over Nadine Dames, with Van den Berg’s consistent play throughout the match earning her the well-deserved third position.
In the end, the Northern Cape Bowls Open Masters Championships once again provided an exciting showcase of talent and sportsmanship, and congratulations are due to all the players for their exceptional performances, especially to the champions CP Mathewson and Malandi Lambrechts for their remarkable victories.
