The pressure on Kaizer Chiefs’ coaching duo Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef continues to mount, with another former player publicly questioning the club’s technical direction.

Last week, Isaac Mabotsa urged the club to appoint a new head coach after a recent run of poor form, and this week Chiefs great Joseph Setlhodi has joined the chorus of discontent.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, “Banks” Setlhodi, who played for the club between 1970 and 1985, said that if it were up to him, the first thing he would address at the club was the technical department.

“Those guys there, I doubt they know anything about football,” said the former Chiefs goalkeeper.

According to Setlhodi, Pitso Mosimanethe man many want to see appointed as the club’s head coach – would be difficult to bring on board unless a few things changed.

“I told them Pitso will come with conditions. He will want better players than the ones currently there. He knows exactly the kind of team he wants. So, it would be very tough for Pitso to come and coach Kaizer Chiefs with the current crop of players,” added Setlhodi.

Mosimane has himself spoken about the speculation linking him to the Chiefs job, insisting that it would need to be a long-term project requiring significant financial investment.

“This thing has phases. It needs a plan,” the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach said when speaking to Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide. “Arteta took time to get Arsenal right. You’ve got to believe, invest and recruit properly. Football is also about money – not only money – but recruitment is key.”

Despite calls for Kaze and Ben Youssef to be sacked, Chiefs currently find themselves in an encouraging fourth place in the Betway Premiership, just four points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates and two behind perennial South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who are chasing a ninth consecutive league title.
