Former Proteas player JP Duminy believes the aggressive approach of South Africa towards the Pakistan spinners will serve them well again in the second T20 International in Lahore on Friday evening.

The match begins at 5pm SA time.

South Africa fielded something of an experimental side in the first match, with opener Reeza Hendricks top-scoring with a knock of 60 from just 40 balls as the visitors romped to a 55-run win.

Duminy, who also previously worked with the Proteas as a batting coach, liked what he saw in the opening clash in Rawalpindi.

South Africa’s Aggressive Approach Against Spin in T20 Series

“There might be a little bit of turn and if you think about the first T20, there was a large chunk of the overs in the 20 overs of bowling that you saw quite a bit of spin and what was impressive is the aggressive nature that South Africa adopted, particularly in the first two deliveries of every over, they tried to get a boundary,” Duminy told SportsBoom.co.za.

“Whenever there was an opportunity to pounce, they took it, and I think that’s a winning formula in trying to dominate against spin, and I think that’s no different going into the second and third T20s.”

The sides will also return to Lahore, the venue for the first Test where South Africa fell to a 93-run defeat as the Pakistan spinners ran riot.

Playing a T20I at the same ground, however, means a big turning wicket won’t be likely, explained Duminy.

“There’s probably a strong likelihood that the wicket won’t be the same as it would be in the Test match. I think there’s probably going to be a good batting surface here.”
