Despite recent weather disruptions, Somerset West’s Parel Vallei High School captain Sevi Barlow said that the team’s preparation has been solid.
“The players have worked diligently, with a focus on improving their fielding, which will undoubtedly enhance our overall performance. Additionally, the bowlers have been refining their strategies for T20 cricket, ensuring we’re ready for the challenges ahead,” he said.
The captain said that in high-pressure moments, he plans to maintain a high level of intensity and keep the team’s energy up. If the pressure mounts, he will ensure the players remain focused on the positives, keeping their heads high and staying confident.
“I have full confidence in our squad’s ability to perform well. We have a talented and resilient group of players, capable of adapting to any conditions,” he told the DFA.
“This tournament is an exciting opportunity, not just for the team but for the school as well. It represents a significant milestone, showcasing the progress our cricket programme has made over the years.
“Being invited to compete is a testament to that growth, and the boys are eager to take part. We can’t wait to get out there and make our mark,” he concluded.
The Parel Vallei cricket coach, Jan Rademan, meanwhile, exudes confidence in his squad’s readiness. The team has been working hard to prepare for the tournament, and Rademan believes their training has positioned them well to compete at a high level.
“At Parel Vallei, we strive for excellence both on and off the field,” Rademan said. “We feel confident in the team’s preparation for the festival. Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen the team come together, both in terms of skill and camaraderie. The players have shown consistent growth in match simulations and net sessions.”
Key strategies have been implemented during training to ensure the team is mentally and physically prepared. “We’ve focused on fostering a winning mentality and match-specific scenarios, making sure each player knows their role inside out. We’re honing in on high-intensity, pressure situations so that the team is mentally ready for the challenges ahead,” Rademan explained.
To ensure the team adapts smoothly to the tournament environment, Rademan shared his strategy: “We'll be arriving early to the venue to familiarise ourselves with the conditions. Mental preparation is key, and we’ll focus on maintaining routines to keep the players grounded despite the pressure.”
For Parel Vallei, this tournament is not just about winning but also about growth and recognition.
“This event is a significant milestone for our school’s cricket programme. Competing at this level, particularly with televised matches, provides us with a platform to showcase our talent and commitment to sport.
“It’s an opportunity for our players to perform on a bigger stage and for the school to build its cricketing reputation,” Rademan concluded.
