After an impressive 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in their midweek Betway Premiership clash, Mamelodi Sundowns will turn their focus to the Nedbank Cup competition on Saturday. TS Galaxy will host Sundowns at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium (3 pm start).

Having reached the Round of 16 after a 2-1 victory over Gomora United in the Round of 32 earlier this month, Sundowns will look to build on their momentum and push deeper into the tournament. TS Galaxy have been experiencing a rough patch recently, particularly in the league, having suffered three consecutive defeats against AmaZulu, Sekhukhune United, and Durban City.

Currently sitting eighth in the league table, Galaxy progressed to the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants, also played at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium earlier in February.

Sundowns’ coach, Miguel Cardoso, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects as they aim to collect crucial points during a demanding period across competitions.

“I’m sure everybody is closer now to what we are trying to achieve. Our mentality was always to try match-by-match, believing in ourselves; we don’t need to rely on anyone,” Cardoso remarked. He expressed confidence in his squad’s transformation, a direct result of hard work and results-driven focus. “Now we’re a little bit better. The team is the same one that started the season, obviously transformed due to work. We need to believe in our supporters to stand by our side,” he added.

On the other hand, TS Galaxy’s coach, Adnan Beganovic, is keen to maintain momentum following their positive cup result against Marumo Gallants. He insists his side must zoom in on their upcoming match and take it one game at a time.

“I am happy that my team advanced. We will take it game by game, and we will see from there,” Beganovic said. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasised the importance of staying composed and controlling the game for the full 90 minutes.

As both teams gear up for this riveting encounter, fans can expect an intense battle on Saturday. Mamelodi Sundowns will be aiming for cup glory, while TS Galaxy will be equally determined to turn their fortunes around.
