THE STREETS of Kimberley were awash in pink, white, and red on Tuesday as Kimberley Harriers hosted their annual Valentine 4km fun run and walk in support of the SPCA in Kimberley.

Hundreds of residents gathered for the much-loved community event, embracing the Valentine theme with colourful outfits and cheerful energy. What set the day apart once again was the inclusion of four-legged companions, with dog owners invited to walk the 4km route alongside their leashed pets.

The excitement among walkers and their furry friends was equally matched. Friends paused for hugs and handshakes, while dogs enthusiastically greeted each other by smelling each other's nether regions. Despite the large number of canine participants, there were no major incidents, which was a welcome outcome for both organisers and pet owners.

Generosity was evident from the start. Participants arrived with bags of dog and cat food, blankets and toys to donate to the SPCA in Kimberley. In addition, cash donations amounting to R3,830 were collected, providing further assistance to the organisation’s ongoing animal welfare efforts.

Along the route, small groups of Diamantveld learners offered encouragement to both walkers and their pets, adding to the festive atmosphere. Water bowls were strategically placed to ensure the dogs could enjoy a well-deserved drink during the walk.

While the event raised valuable support for the SPCA, it was also about bringing people together. Families and friends used the 4km stroll as an opportunity to reconnect, catch up and momentarily set aside daily pressures.

The success of Tuesday’s event once again highlighted the generous and friendly spirit of Kimberley residents. Although the SPCA benefited directly from the initiative, it was the open hearts of the community that made the Valentine walk truly special.
