THE Kimberley Diamonds hosted their third weekly social league on Wednesday night, delivering emphatic team victories and memorable individual moments on the oche.

It was a night that firmly belonged to the Viceroy franchises, with both Viceroy 1 and Viceroy 2 flexing their muscles against their respective opponents.

Leane van der Walt of Viceroy 2 set the tone early, firing a maximum 180 in the very first leg of the evening to immediately pile pressure on their rivals. The statement thrown signalled Viceroy 2’s intent, and they never looked back. The side went on to win 13 straight legs, handing Hotshots 2 their first whitewash of the season and once again underlining why they are regarded as the team to beat.

Viceroy 1 was equally ruthless. They looked on course for a complete whitewash against Blue Thunder before Russel managed to secure his team’s only point of the match. The 12-to-1 victory extended Viceroy 1’s impressive run and cemented their status among the league frontrunners.

Elsewhere, Hotshots 1 proved too strong for the Mustangs. Despite early resistance, the Mustangs struggled to keep pace and eventually fell 11 to 2 in a one-sided contest.

On the individual front, Clinton Pillay led the way for the men with the most 100-plus scores on the night, showcasing consistent scoring power. Van Der Walt added to her 180 by also recording the most 100-plus scores in the women’s division. The highest checkout of the evening belonged to Zeidi, who coolly finished on 86.

Two fixtures, between Fantastic 4 and Local Legends, were postponed due to unfortunate circumstances.

With the league heating up, attention now turns to the Dragons franchise, which will begin their yearly campaign on Wednesday, 18 July. If the current pace is anything to go by, the competition is only set to intensify in the weeks ahead.
