Diamantveld athletes shine at TUT Top 14 in Pretoria

DIAMANTVELD High School athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the TUT Top 14 athletics meeting in Pretoria, competing against some of the best young talent in the country and returning home with medals, strong placings, and plenty to celebrate.

The highlight of the event was the gold medal success of two Diamantveld throwers. Marele van Jaarsveld claimed first place in the Under-14 hammer throw, while Danika Roets dominated the Under-19 hammer throw to secure gold in her age group. Their victories were a proud moment for the school and a testament to their dedication, discipline, and hard work.

Beyond the podium finishes, the Diamantveld team produced several commendable results across track and field events. Janika Marx competed in both discus and shot put in the Under-14 category, finishing 11th and 17th, respectively. Germily Bezuidenhout gained valuable experience in the Under-15 sprints, placing 27th in the 100 metres and 28th in the 200 metres, while Hailey Botes finished fifth in the Under-15 hammer throw.

In the Under-17 division, Nika Botma placed 16th in the 200 metres and 13th in the 800 metres. Mckayla van der Linde impressed with a ninth-place finish in the 200 metres and an excellent fifth place in the 400 metres. Lie Anne Kriel represented the school in the Under-19 200 metres, finishing 23rd.

Field events also delivered strong performances. Dandre du Plessis placed 22nd in the Under-15 discus, while Aiden Ruiters recorded a sixth place in the long jump and eighth in the 200 metres. JayDré Stickling narrowly missed the podium with a fourth place in the Under-15 hammer throw and also competed in the shot put. Wian Burger ran both the 100 metres and 200 metres in the Under-16 category, finishing 27th in both events.

High jump results were another bright spot, with Tiaan Groenewald placing fourth in the Under-16 high jump. JD Isaacs competed well in the Under-17 division, finishing sixth in both the high jump and long jump. Dariano Mitchell rounded off the team results with a 15th place finish in the Under-17 200 metres.

Diamantveld High School can be immensely proud of every athlete who represented the school in Pretoria. Their performances reflected commitment, resilience, and school pride, and they continue to raise the standard for Diamantveld athletics on the national stage.
