South Africa are 2-0 up on the West Indies, and the series win is in the bag as the teams head to The Wanderers, Johannesburg, for the third T20 on Saturday.

This is the final contest of the series as the sides finalise their preparations for the imminent T20 World Cup.

The opening match of the series was staged at Paarl on Tuesday, and the Proteas cruised home by nine wickets. The West Indies posted a reasonable 173/7 (Shimron Hetmyer 48), and the Proteas easily chased it down in 17.5 overs, with Lhuan-dre Pretorius (44), Aiden Markram (unbeaten on 86), and Ryan Rickelton (40 not out) all in the runs.

Centurion in Pretoria was the venue for the second encounter on Thursday, and again the Proteas were in sensational form to win by seven wickets and bank the series. South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, and the West Indies posted an impressive 221/4.

Brandon King (49), Hetmyer (75), and Sherfane Rutherford (57 not out) scored freely, with plenty of power hitting for 11 sixes. The score would have been even higher but for Keshav Maharaj’s economical spell (2/22).

In reply, Quinton de Kock smashed a magnificent 115 off just 49 balls, including 10 of his side’s 14 sixes. Rickelton was unbeaten on 77 when the chase was completed in 17.3 overs. Akeal Hosein took two wickets, and De Kock was easily the Player of the Match.

Overall, the teams have met 28 times in this format, with South Africa winning 14 and West Indies also 14.

Over the course of the last decade, South Africa have played 12 T20s at the venue, winning four and losing eight. The most recent T20 international at the Wanderers was against India in November 2024. India (283/1) beat South Africa (148) by a crushing 135 runs.
