KIMBERLEY football has a reason to celebrate as local sensation Ziaad “Zaykie” Mckuchane has secured a move to Cape Town Spurs FC. The Colville-born midfielder’s journey is a testament to the talent that thrives in local communities, driven by passion, discipline, and sheer dedication to the game.
Ziaad leaves behind more than just his home club. Known for his vision, precise passing, deadly free kicks, and relentless work ethic, he played every match with purpose and pride. As his club’s Under-13 vice-captain, he led by example both on and off the field, wearing the armband with humility and consistency.
His uncle, Malume Jerome, expressed both pride and gratitude for Ziaad’s journey.
“Firstly, I want to give thanks to the Almighty for blessing my nephew with such a talent and for always guiding him in the right direction. I am absolutely thrilled about this new journey that Ziaad is experiencing. Watching him grow and pursue what he loves fills my heart with pride. Soccer has been his passion from the age of two or three. I know what he brings to the game and I am excited to see what he will bring to the table,” Jerome said.
He also offered advice for Ziaad as he prepares to leave home.
“It is a different place, different people, and a different culture, so use a different approach. Play with passion, work hard, and most importantly, have fun. You have a special talent and an amazing spirit. I will be cheering you on every step of the way. I am your biggest fan.”
Ziaad himself is embracing the new chapter with maturity and determination.
“I am incredibly excited for this new journey. I know the road ahead is tough, but I am fully committed to doing the extra work in training to make my dreams a reality. This achievement is not only for me but for every young boy with a dream,” he said.
He also paid tribute to his roots and those who nurtured his talent.
“Most importantly, this one is for my home team, Academy of Sparks. This is not goodbye, because goodbyes are for good. I will check you guys next time.”
