AFTER two punishing weekends played under extreme Northern Cape heat, the Kimberley Sub District Fours competition wrapped up in dramatic fashion, with temperatures climbing above 40 degrees Celsius and pushing players to their physical and mental limits.
The Men’s Fours once again belonged to CP Mathewson, David Paulse, Scotty Elliot, and Kieran Kelly, who successfully defended their title to claim back-to-back championships. The experienced quartet was the standout side throughout the tournament, producing consistent performances and eliminating every opponent they faced.
The final delivered plenty of tension, remaining closely contested through the opening 13 ends. From that point on, Mathewson’s team found another level, pulling clear of their opponents to secure a convincing victory. Their rivals, led by Lappies Labuschagne alongside Scotty Andrews, Charl Labuschagne, and reserve Varkie de Jager, showed grit and quality throughout the event and reached the final unbeaten, making their runner-up finish a commendable achievement.
The playoff for third place saw Marco Geel, Driaan van Niekerk, Gerrit Gagiano, and JP Marais finish strongly, while Vusi Mphale, Carlon Moodaley, Keshan Moodaley, and Shaun Campher ended fourth.
In the Ladies Fours, seven teams competed in a demanding round robin format. After seven intense rounds, Annelie Mathewson, Rene van Niekerk, Helena Janse, and Cherese Labuschagne topped the standings to be crowned 2026 champions. Their unbeaten run highlighted their dominance and consistency across the competition.

With the district competition now concluded, attention shifts to the Northern Cape Fours, set to take place in Kimberley next weekend, where several of the top-performing teams will look to carry their momentum onto the provincial stage.
