The Betway SA20 final between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape is only a few hours away this Sunday on a glorious, sunlit day at Newlands in Cape Town (starts 3.30pm).
The Capitals are chasing a maiden title, while Sunrisers are aiming for an unprecedented fourth trophy. Finals are the perfect stage for big players to step up, and both the Capitals and Sunrisers have stars aplenty capable of winning the game single-handedly.
None, however, are bigger than the Sunrisers’ Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis for the Capitals.
Capitals captain Keshav Maharaj believes both will have a major impact on the result for their respective teams.
“As much as people know Dewald is a young guy, he's got a lot of experience from a batting perspective, so he's just going to play his game,” Maharaj said.
“And I'm sure Quinny will do the same. Quinny obviously has a lot more experience, but I think you've seen two different types of players coming into their own in this tournament and being the stalwarts of the batting attack. I'm just allowing them to free themselves up and play accordingly.”
Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain Tristan Stubbs believes they may have an ace up their sleeve in all-rounder James Coles.
“I don't think many South Africans would have seen him with the World Cup, and I think he's having the best time of his life — both on and off the field,” Stubbs said.
“I think he surprised a lot of us, but from what we were told by the English boys and AD (Adrian Birrell), this guy's a good batter and a good bowler. He’s done really well for us.”
