Proteas captain Temba Bavuma is taking his first steps into the financial world after being named Brand Ambassador for Mukuru, a pioneering remittance-led neobank dedicated to shaping Africa’s financial future by bridging the cash and digital economies.
In his capacity as Brand Ambassador, Bavuma will collaborate with the brand on its mission to empower underserved communities.
For Bavuma, the partnership holds special significance, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Temba Bavuma Foundation. Over the past decade, the Foundation has passionately worked to make a difference, launching important programs in education and sport to support and uplift underprivileged youth.
“I am genuinely excited to collaborate with Mukuru. I’ve always believed that success comes from what we achieve together, not just individually,” Bavuma said.
“As my Foundation marks its 10th anniversary, my goal is to create a lasting, positive impact.”
The announcement comes on the same day as the Temba Bavuma Foundation supports the nation-wide Back To School campaign by donating stationary and other essential materials to learners at a ceremony held at Nthuthoku Primary in Kagiso.
The learners from Grade 3 and Grade 6 will receive a full-set of stationery. Female learners will also get dignity packs.
“Temba Bavuma is more than just a world-class athlete. He’s a role model for millions, a relatable symbol of resilience, and he fuels dreams. Kids in Mumbai, Maritzburg and Masvingo want to emulate him when playing cricket,” says Andy Jury, Group CEO at Mukuru.
“As his Foundation celebrates a decade of changing lives through education and sport, we saw a perfect alignment with Mukuru’s mission to provide the tools people need to build a better future. We are honoured to welcome him to the Mukuru family.”
The partnership also lays the groundwork for an exciting journey towards the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, an event that will see South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia co-hosting the tournament.
With Mukuru already a major sponsor of the Zimbabwe Chevrons cricket team, this alignment with the Proteas captain strengthens the brand's foothold within African cricket.
“Mukuru has deep roots in Zimbabwe and South Africa, much like the upcoming World Cup,” said Jury. “By partnering with Temba now, we are essentially starting our own Road to 2027, celebrating the unity and talent of the Southern African region as we prepare to welcome the world.”
