The Sunrisers Eastern Cape stormed to the top of the Betway SA20 table after another classy performance against the Pretoria Capitals at St George’s Park on Monday evening.
The home side showcased their batting prowess by amassing a commanding 188/6 before the bowling unit restricted the Capitals to 140 to close out a 48-run win.
Quinton de Kock was the star of the show, striking an impressive 77 runs, punctuated by an aggressive approach that placed the Capitals under pressure from the outset.
De Kock was in sublime form from the outset, pulling and cutting aggressively, but also showing a few deft touches when required.
Matthew Breetzke complemented De Kock’s efforts with a steady 52 runs, anchoring the innings as he navigated through the tricky middle period. The Proteas pair put together a stirring 116-run partnership off just 70 balls after the early departure of Jonny Bairstow.
Breetzke’s contribution was vital, ensuring the Sunrisers kept their momentum going, whilst the in-form Jordan Hermann chipped in with a valuable 37 runs off just 27 balls, further solidifying the Sunrisers’ position.
The Capitals were not helped by a listless display in the field that saw the visitors put down a series of dropped catches that could have altered the complexion of the innings.
The Sunrisers are blessed with a pace attack of the highest quality and it was Kiwi import Adam Milne that led the way with the impressive figures of 4/25.
The remainder of the attack chipped in to keep the Capitals winless after two matches, while the Sunrisers’ train kept steaming on.
