NC Heat prepare for a hard fight as Kimberley team braces for a heavy test against Knights this weekend

IT'S BEEN a long season for NC Heat, and as they get ready to host their regional rivals, the Flexbrands Knights, this Thursday in Kimberley, supporters know it won’t be easy. The Knights arrive undefeated in the CSA 4-Day Series and riding high after sweeping aside opposition in their earlier matches. For Heat fans, it’s time to steel themselves – but also to hope for the spark that could turn things around.
Northern Cape Heat need to dig deep
The Knights are coming off two commanding wins at the Mangaung Oval – first an eight-wicket victory over the Eastern Storm, then an innings-and-99-run demolition of the Limpopo Impalas. Confidence must be high.
Meanwhile, the Heat have endured a bruising 4-Day Series so far. They suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Eastern Cape Iinyathi and a heavy 258-run loss to the Mpumalanga Rhinos. Their T20 Knockout campaign fared little better: out of six fixtures, three ended with no result due to weather, and the remaining three were defeats.
On top of that, turmoil off the field has added weight. Last week, Cricket South Africa confirmed the immediate dismissal of Northern Cape Cricket CEO Thapelo January and Heat team manager (and former NCC finance chair) Mbulelo Bosman. The pair were found guilty of serious financial mismanagement, misconduct and governance violations following a forensic investigation – a judgment that likely hangs heavy over the squad.
No walk in the park for the Knights
The Knights have already beaten Heat by 93 runs in Kimberley this season during the T20 Knockout’s opening round. But now the format is different, the stakes are higher – and there's reason to believe the Heat will fight with everything they have. History, local pride and a hungry desire to right the wrongs of a troubled season could combine into a determined performance.
