THE KIMBERLEY Harriers Running Club successfully hosted the 26th edition of the popular Magersfontein Memorial Race on December 6, with sponsorship from Idstone Farming and Jacobsdal Dairy.
This year’s event saw a record number of participants tackle the challenging courses through the historic Magersfontein battlefield area outside Kimberley, in the Northern Cape.
Runners had the choice of a demanding 25km route or a 10km distance, with separate walking categories also well supported. The tough, undulating terrain and warm summer conditions tested athletes yet produced some excellent performances, particularly from members of the host club.
In fact, Kimberley Harriers dominated many of the age and club categories, underlining the strength of athletics in the Diamond City. Club members swept the men’s 25km podium and secured numerous age-group victories.
