As their grip on the Betway Premiership title loosened somewhat following a 1-1 draw with Siwelele FC at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso made a thinly veiled dig at the officiating during his side’s clash.
While it appeared Cardoso went to great lengths to not mention the referee, it was easy to see he was not happy with the decisions on the pitch.
Sundowns were reduced to 10 men towards the conclusion of the contest as Teboho Mokoena received a second yellow card.
This would not have gone down well with the Sundowns bench, as their side now trails Orlando Pirates by two points after the midweek action.
“We had massive control in the second half, we scored but someone on the pitch more clever than everyone else decided to make the game difficult for us,” Cardoso told SuperSport after the game.
“And that’s the story of the game. It seems like people come here and speak a lot and make teases out of this match.
“But in this match, there was Sundowns trying to score and the other team just handling them, nothing more.”
When pressed again on what he meant about someone clever, if he did in fact mean the referee, Cardoso replied: “I said there was someone clever, I didn’t speak about the referee.
“It’s up to you to analyse, you had the TV and you can say what you saw not me. I don’t know. I don’t want to be punished.”
