KIMBERLEY is set to become the epicentre of global skateboarding once again as the city hosts the final leg of the 2025 Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) Skateboarding Championships from December 5 TO 6.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government, through the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDaT), confirmed that the event will close out this year’s KDC series in spectacular fashion, drawing international interest and world class competition.
With a prize purse of R200,000 up for grabs, the finale is expected to showcase some of the best skateboarding talent on the planet. Athletes who qualified through the KDC Grand Slams earlier this year will converge on Kimberley for two days of intense, high stakes action.
Competitors from America, England, Thailand, Austria, Portugal, and several African nations including Lesotho, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Swaziland, will bring a global flair to the championship, underscoring the KDC’s growing status on the international stage.
Adding even more adrenaline to the weekend, organisers have lined up an FMX motocross show guaranteed to thrill spectators. The high flying stunt display will feature throughout the programme, boosting the festival atmosphere and cementing the event as one of the most dynamic extreme sports gatherings in Africa.
As one of the continent’s premier skateboarding showcases, the KDC continues to position the Northern Cape as a hub for extreme sports, youth development, and sports tourism. Beyond the action on the ramps, the event is set to provide a welcome economic boost for Kimberley’s hospitality, retail, and transport sectors as visitors, families, and professional teams descend on the city.
MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Venus Blennies-Magage, said hosting the finale in Kimberley highlights the province’s growing momentum in the global extreme sports environment.
“The KDC Championship remains a catalyst for youth empowerment, skills development, and economic activity. Bringing all Grand Slam qualifiers to Kimberley underscores our commitment to positioning the Northern Cape as an active player in the global extreme sports arena.
"We are excited to welcome athletes and visitors as we close this year’s series with pride,” she said.
Spectators can expect two full days of skateboarding battles, entertainment, exhibitions, and community activations. The organisers have assured attendees of a safe, family friendly environment throughout the weekend.
Parking will not be allowed directly in front of the Kimberley Skate Plaza, and visitors are asked to make use of the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre parking facilities.
