MEALS on Wheels Northern Cape has officially launched the Extreme Cycle for Hunger 2026, a powerful nationwide initiative aimed at tackling hunger one kilometre at a time. The recent announcement signals the start of preparations for one of South Africa’s most meaningful endurance events.

The multi-day cycling tour, set to take place from February 25 to March 6, will see committed cyclists travel the challenging route from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The goal: to raise funds for nutritious meals that support vulnerable families, especially in drought-stricken and impoverished communities throughout the Northern Cape.

"Making a difference in someone's life can mean so much, and it can be done on any day, not just important days," said Gershon Naidoo, acting area director for Meals on Wheels Northern Cape. "This ride reminds us that small acts of kindness, when multiplied, can change entire communities."

Participants can ride individually or as part of a team, with opportunities to sponsor kilometres, run fund-raising campaigns, or donate directly to Meals on Wheels’ feeding programmes. These programmes deliver thousands of meals daily, offering lifelines to families facing severe hardship.

Meals on Wheels Northern Cape also announced that JAC Motors will once again return as the official vehicle sponsor for the 2026 tour, marking their third consecutive year supporting the cause. Their vehicles will assist with logistics, safety, and co-ordination across multiple provinces.

"We at JAC Motors are honoured to partner with Meals on Wheels in this remarkable initiative," said Karl-Heinz Gabel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa. "As a brand committed to South Africa for over eight years, we are proud to support a cause that inspires hope, unity, and positive change across our country."

With sponsorship and registration opportunities now open, organisers are calling on cyclists, companies, and communities to join the movement and help turn every kilometre into a meal for someone in need.
