Wing Dylan Maart has joined the Stormers on loan as cover for the injured Seabelo Senatla, giving the Cape side a timely boost as they approach a crucial stretch of the season.

They will resume their United Rugby Championship campaign next weekend against Munster in a top-of-the-table clash, while the European Champions Cup is also on the horizon early in December.

The 29-year-old outside back arrives in Cape Town as part of a development agreement between Stormers Rugby and Griquas. The partnership will see winger Sako Makata and hooker Keagan Blanckenberg head to Kimberley on loan.

Maart was one of the standout performers for Griquas during their triumphant Currie Cup campaign earlier this year and spent time training with the Stormers at the start of the current season. He boasts some serious pace and sharp instincts, is secure under high kicks and has built a reputation as both a lethal finisher and a strong defender.

Stormers director of rugby John Dobson said Maart has settled in quickly and is already showing why the Stormers value the development link with Griquas.

“Dylan is a local lad from Wellington and has made a big impression in Kimberley. He fits our style of play well, and we’re excited to see what he can bring as we enter a key phase of the season,” Dobson said in a statement.

“He’s worked incredibly hard to get here and fully deserves this opportunity. His pathway wasn’t the conventional one for high-performance rugby, but his story is an inspiring reminder of what dedication can achieve.

“This really highlights the strength of our agreement with Griquas, with players moving between Cape Town and Kimberley to the benefit of both teams.”
