Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has been sidelined for two months after shoulder surgery, it was reported on Wednesday.

In a post on X, the keeper was seen in a hospital bed attempting a smile. In the picture, we can his left shoulder has dark strapping with what also appears to be a drain from the wound.

Ntwari is said to be out of action for two months with his rehabilitation, although that appears optimistic considering he has undergone surgery.

It was not revealed where Ntwari went under the knife.

Ntwari’s Defiance: A Turbulent Season with Chiefs and the Penalty Shootout Controversy

The 26-year-old has already had something of turbulent season with Chiefs, finding himself in hot water last month.

Ntwari refused to be substituted before the looming penalty shootout in his side’s Carling Knockout match against Stellenbosch FC in early October, and Chiefs said they will deal with the matter internally.

Bruce Bvuma had been ready to take the field ahead of the shootout, but instead he had to put his jacket back on and watch the action from the sidelines.

Chiefs would go on to lose the shootout, and Ntwari stood out as a clear act of defiance towards his coaching staff.

It beggared belief that a player could simply refuse management’s instruction to be subbed, and for me it points to another example of things not being right behind the scenes.

It meant after the exit, Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze not only had to attempt to explain the defeat but why his gloveman would not listen to the call to be substituted.
