This Sunday, a new name will be etched on the ICC Women’s World Cup trophy. It will either be hosts India or The Proteas Women.
The Mzansi ladies have shown incredible resilience and unity throughout this tournament.
Despite the loss in the first group stage game to England, the team rallied with five wins in a row and were unrelenting in their semi-final win when they played England, again!
This moment is not just about a final; it’s a testament to the unbreakable spirit that defines this squad and the spirit behind The Proteas badge.
The fact that our ladies in the semi-final slapped back in style against the England team that had dimmed their lights defeating them with 10 wickets in the opening game, has already displayed the resilient spirit of the Green 'n Gold.
The road was paved with high-pressure moments: following the England disaster, they secured a confidence-boosting win over New Zealand powered by a Tazmin Brits' century.
Crucially, they chased down a challenging total against hosts India thanks to a stunning late-innings masterclass from all-rounder Nadine de Klerk. This consistency and an ability to win the tight group matches were vital in earning their semi-final shot at redemption.
This tournament has been a showcase of incredible individual excellence, but two names stand out as the architects of the Proteas Women's historic run: skipper Laura Wolvaardt leading from the front and veteran Marizanne Kapp anchoring the ship with experience and class.
Now, it is time to put gloss on it as the nation unites behind our stars.
