Alizwa Mdingi will, in his heart, always stay close to his roots. Born in Mitchells Plain in Cape Town he dreams of one day stepping onto the field at Newlands Cricket Ground, one of South Africa’s most iconic cricketing venues.
Alizwa says that he discovered his love for cricket during primary school when he took part in a mini cricket match that sparked his lifelong passion for the sport. His proudest moment so far was earning his first provincial call-up to the Under-12 team, a milestone that motivated him to keep striving for excellence.
Known for his creativity, hard work, and confidence, he describes himself as a forever hard-working player dedicated to giving his best on and off the field. This could give one the impression that he could get a bit over excited, but he has a method that keeps him calm.
Before matches, Alizwa centers himself by listening to gospel or hip-hop music, finding rhythm and focus in the beats.
Now part of the Sol Plaatje University cricket family, Alizwa says his journey has been fulfilling, filled with new friendships, growth, and the bond of brotherhood that comes from being part of a close-knit team.
