Born in the North West, Leago Leboko has dreams of playing at the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, a place she considers the ultimate cricket stage.
Her cricket journey began in Grade 5 when her English teacher, Mrs Kalankate, insisted she try out the sport. As it turns out, what started as a reluctant introduction eventually turned into a deep passion. Leago says that even when she tried to step away from the game, her teacher and coach made sure she stayed involved. Their influence ultimately shaped her path as a cricketer.
The payoff came later. Leago’s proudest moments include being selected for the Provincial Under-19 team for the first time and representing her province at the Girls’ Under-19 T20 National Championships in Stellenbosch in 2023.
These milestones remain defining moments in her young career.
She says that with all the distractions around these days, to prepare mentally before matches, she either listens to music or plays Real Cricket 3D on her phone, small rituals that help her focus and stay calm.
Leago describes herself as positive, resourceful, and resilient. To her, cricket is more than a sport; as she says that it feels like home. It represents belonging, purpose, and growth, both on and off the field.
She revealed that her journey at Sol Plaatje University has been exciting and fulfilling. She has met new people and learnt more about herself as both an athlete and an individual and continues to embrace every opportunity to grow.
Leago’s story is one of persistence, passion, and gratitude, a reminder that sometimes, being “forced” into something unexpected can lead you right where you’re meant to be.
