The Griquas U-21s delivered a dominant display in rainy conditions at Suzuki Park on Saturday, defeating the Valke 36-14 in the Shield Tournament.

Suzuki Park was the scene of a commanding performance on Saturday as the Griquas U-21s overpowered the Valke to secure a 36-14 victory in their Shield Tournament clash.
Played under constant drizzle and slippery conditions, the match tested both teams’ handling skills. Errors crept in on either side, but the Griquas managed the challenges better, keeping control of the game from the opening whistle.
The Valke showed signs of attack but not enough to overturn the Griquas dominance.

The home side struck first, crossing the line to set the tone for the afternoon. Their pack of forwards dominated upfront, driving the ball steadily towards the try line, while their speedy wings proved lethal on the outside, finishing off with tries that widened the gap. By halftime, the scoreboard reflected the Griquas’ superiority as they surged into a comfortable lead.
The second half brought more of the same, with the Griquas continuing their relentless attack. The Valke fought back bravely, managing to breach the Griquas’ defence to register points of their own, but it was never enough to shift the momentum.
In the end, the Griquas’ all-round dominance and composure in tough conditions saw them run out deserved 36-14 winners, much to the delight of the loyal supporters who braved the rain to cheer them on.
