Born and raised in Kimberley, in the heart of the Northern Cape, Yaseed Kajee’s cricket journey began at home. With his father running the Colts Cricket Club, the sport was never just a choice but a way of life.
Surrounded by nets, cricket kit, and weekend matches from the time he could walk, Yaseed quickly found himself bowling and swinging a bat, growing up in a community deeply rooted in cricket.
His proudest achievements include representing his province in every age group during Provincial Weeks, from primary through to high school. Wearing the provincial jersey year after year gave him pride and purpose, and reinforced his belief that hard work always gets noticed.
If given the chance to play anywhere in the world, Yaseed dreams of stepping onto the Melbourne Cricket Ground. For him, the size, history, and atmosphere of the MCG, where legends like Shane Warne once played, makes it the ultimate cricket stage.
To prepare for matches, Yaseed focuses on the mental side of the game. He centres himself with deep breaths, trusts his preparation, and reminds himself to stick to the basics to stay consistent under pressure.
Away from cricket, he is a video game enthusiast who enjoys FIFA and Call of Duty as a way to relax, reset, and connect with friends. He describes himself as team-oriented, hardworking, and loyal – values that reflect both his sporting and personal life.
At Sol Plaatje University, Yaseed’s journey has been positive and fulfilling. The transition from high school was made easier by familiar faces, and the campus community has given him a sense of belonging and ambition. For Yaseed, cricket and education remain a combined path of growth and opportunity.
