MANCHESTER United secured a much-needed 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday, easing the strain on manager Ruben Amorim.
The game swung early when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off in the fifth minute. Bruno Fernandes marked his 200th Premier League appearance by opening the scoring nine minutes later. Casemiro doubled the lead before half-time but was dismissed shortly after for a second yellow card.
Despite being level on players, Chelsea struggled to break through until Trevoh Chalobah pulled one back with a header 10 minutes from time. United held on to claim just their second league win of the season, moving into the top half.
"Every win, especially in this momen,t is important, against a great opponent," Amorim said. "We scored two goals, and then we tried to complicate our game again. It's always complicated with us. It should have been different, this game."
It was Chelsea’s first defeat of the campaign.
In the early kick-off, Liverpool beat Everton 2-1 to continue their perfect start under Arne Slot.
Ryan Gravenberch fired the opener in the 10th minute, before Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead midway through the first half. Everton hit back through Idrissa Gueye after the break, but the hosts held on for their fifth straight league win.
"We needed mentality today in a different fashion than the few times before," said Slot. "We ran out of energy a bit, but we didn't run out of mentality."
West Ham’s struggles continued with a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, their fourth loss in five games. Manager Graham Potter admitted: "I've no reason to think not," when asked if he still had the board’s support, but added: "I also understand the environment and the results."
Tottenham fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Brighton, climbing to second in the table, five points behind Liverpool. Leeds beat Wolves 3-1 to leave the Midlands side winless after five games. Burnley and Nottingham Forest drew 1-1.
