Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team, with the club stressing that discussions with the Tunisian mentor remain ongoing.
In a statement released on Friday, Amakhosi described the matter as “internal in nature” and insisted it was being handled through the appropriate processes.
News of Nabi’s shock departure broke on Wednesday following the side’s first defeat of the season at the hands of Sekhukhune United.
Having won the Nedbank Cup last season, it was assumed the experienced mentor had bought himself more time at the Naturena-based club despite their ninth-place league finish.
“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the club and the coach remain ongoing. The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes,” the club’s communication read.
“The club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period.
"As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage. We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official club channels when appropriate.”
The timing of the announcement is significant, with Chiefs currently en route to Angola for their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash against Kabuscorp this weekend. Nabi’s absence means preparations for the fixture fall under the spotlight, even as the club reassures fans that stability will not be compromised.
Amakhosi, who are aiming to make a mark on the continental stage after last season’s Nedbank Cup triumph, now face fresh questions about how they will navigate their campaign without clarity on the head coach’s situation.
For now, the club has chosen to keep the matter behind closed doors, asking supporters for patience as internal talks continue. The next communication, as Chiefs have stressed, will only come through official channels.
