Northern Cape archery is experiencing a golden chapter, with 2025 proving to be one of its most successful years yet.
Building on the momentum of 2024, when Diamond Archery Club was crowned Best ABO Club of the Year and celebrated three National Champions, the region has continued to shine brightly on both the local and national stage.
This year alone, 19 archers proudly earned their Northern Cape Colours, while eight achieved the prestigious honour of National Colours. These milestones speak volumes about the dedication of the athletes, as well as the challenging courses set up by Northern Cape 3Di to sharpen their skills.
At the highest level of competition, local talent continues to make headlines. Junior Fourie and Odette Victor emerged as national stars after clinching the coveted Triple Crown Championship, a gruelling six-day event that tested endurance and precision over three tournaments and six courses.
Their triumphs were matched by strong showings from teammates, with Phillip Coetzee taking second place in his class and both Hennie Victor and Jaco Mulke earning third-place finishes.
The 2025 national rankings tell the story of a club that has become a powerhouse.
Four Diamond Archery Club members – Odette Victor, Junior Fourie, Zanne Mulke, and Jaco Mulke – now hold the number one ranking in their respective classes, while an impressive 11 members are listed among the top 10 archers nationwide.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for October when Northern Cape 3Di will mark its second anniversary with a groundbreaking event.
For the first time in South Africa, a TAC style competition will be staged, challenging archers to hit targets at a staggering 100 yards in a rugged, hilly setting.
The Archery Festival, hosted with the Boshof Warriors Club and Diamond Archery Club at the Bush Pub in Boshof, promises a full weekend of action, featuring the Eureka Diamond Challenge TAC event, a Traditional 3Di competition, the NTT 3Di Invitational, and an AGA event.
These achievements and upcoming milestones highlight the remarkable rise of archery in the Northern Cape. With each arrow released, local athletes are proving that the sport is not only thriving but also shaping a proud legacy that will inspire the next generation.
