The much-loved Somerweek, hosted by Bokkieweek, will return to the Vaal Triangle from 7 to 11 October, promising a week filled with sport, energy, and camaraderie in the town of Meyerton.

Sports lovers from across South Africa are expected to gather along the banks of the Vaal River for what has become one of the standout events on the annual calendar. The tournament features a vibrant mix of sports, including 7s rugby, T20 cricket, fast five netball, golf, and six-a-side hockey.

The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 7 October, at 5pm, immediately followed by the first matches of the rugby sevens. From that moment, the pace of the week will be set, with teams challenging each other in fast, high-energy contests across all sporting codes.

For many, the event is not just about competition but also about the setting. “It is a privilege for us to return to the Vaal Triangle and play alongside the river. The spring greenery with plants budding along the water creates such a beautiful and lively atmosphere,” said Reverend Stans, reflecting on what makes the week so special.

The action will build towards Saturday, 11 October, when teams compete in the semi-finals and finals. Every side will play on the final day to determine their overall ranking, ensuring no one leaves without a moment to prove themselves. The week will close with a prize-giving ceremony, during which the AVS National Teams will also be announced, adding an extra layer of excitement.

Yet, Somerweek is more than sport alone. Reverend Stans described it as a cultural celebration as much as a competition. “During this week, sporting talent from across the country gathers to enjoy their passion for the game with joy and without pressure. It is truly inspiring to share in that spirit together.”

With its blend of sport, culture, and community spirit, Somerweek 2025 is set to be an unforgettable experience. Bokkieweek has extended an open invitation to the media and public to join them for this week of action and celebration in Meyerton.
