The future of Griquas rugby was on full display this past weekend when the Griquas U/21 side stormed to a commanding 72–20 victory over the Limpopo Bulls. Played as the curtain-raiser to the highly anticipated Currie Cup semi-final between the Suzuki Griquas and Toyota Cheetahs, the young Griquas outfit left no doubt about their talent and potential.

From the moment the whistle signalled the start, the Griquas wasted no time in stamping their authority. Barely minutes into the contest, they crossed the whitewash for the opening try, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. The early score injected confidence into the side, and they never looked back as the tries kept flowing.

The Limpopo Bulls had a few moments where they threatened to claw their way into the contest, showing flashes of determination and skill. However, their efforts were consistently undone by sloppy handling and a string of ill-discipline that gifted the Griquas both territory and possession. Against a side brimming with pace and attacking intent, such errors were ruthlessly punished.

The Griquas’ fast wings proved particularly deadly, slicing through the Bulls’ defensive lines with speed and precision. Whether it was wide out on the flanks or powering through the middle, the young Kimberley-based side seemed to find gaps everywhere. Their ability to spread the ball quickly and keep the tempo high left the Limpopo Bulls scrambling on defence.

By halftime, the Griquas were firmly in control, and the second half was more of the same. The scoreboard ticked over regularly as the Griquas piled on the points, much to the delight of the growing crowd settling in for the main Currie Cup semi-final.

In the end, the emphatic 72–20 scoreline reflected the dominance of the Griquas U/21 team. It was a performance filled with flair, power, and discipline, serving as a statement of intent from a group of players who could soon be wearing the senior jersey. For the Bulls, the afternoon was a tough lesson in the price of errors against quality opposition.
