Born in Gasehubane, Kuruman, Tlhalefo Kgape’s love for cricket took shape when he relocated to his paternal family in Batlharos. Influenced by his cousins, he joined his local club KEW in 2015, where he has been developing his skills ever since.
His cricket journey has already produced proud memories. Making the 2021 Khaya Majola Week for Northern Cape during his matric year stands as one of his biggest highlights. Another came in 2023 when he scored his first-ever half-century while representing Sol Plaatje University at the USSA tournament. Both achievements, he says, remind him how much he has grown in the game.
If given the opportunity to play anywhere in the world, Tlhalefo dreams of stepping onto the Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka. Known for its rich history and unique coastal setting, it represents both challenge and inspiration for the young cricketer.
When it comes to preparation on game day, Tlhalefo admits there is no single routine. For him, it is the excitement and sheer love of the game that leave him mentally ready each time he takes the field.
Describing himself as friendly, energetic, and smiley, he wants the Kimberley crowd to know that he is just a goofy guy who enjoys connecting with others and, above all, loves turning the ball.
Life at Sol Plaatje University has not been without challenges. Academically, he admits the journey has been tough at times, but the support he receives both on campus and beyond has kept him going. On the cricket field, he credits his coaches for shaping his game and helping him grow, with the belief that the best is yet to come.
