Cricket has been part of Letlotlo Appolus’s life since his early days playing mini cricket. Born in Vryburg, North West, Letlotlo always enjoyed the game. It was, however, during his high school years that the sport became more than just a pastime and turned into a true passion.
The young player kicked on, focused more and started applying himself. As a result he thrived. One of his proudest memories on the field came in a Promotion League T20 Quarter Final against Colts CC. Asked to open the bowling, a role he was not accustomed to, Letlotlo delivered an unforgettable spell, taking three wickets for just 11 runs.
His four overs helped his side secure victory, cementing the moment as a highlight of his career so far. But he wants more. He says that, if given the chance to play anywhere in the world, Lord’s Cricket Ground in England tops his list.
Letlotlo says that there’s always pressure to perform, and this causes the butterflies to flutter in his tummy, and to overcome the nerves he prepares himself, getting into the zone by listening to music and channelling his focus for when he steps onto the field.
The young cricketer describes himself as passionate, self-aware and a team player. He wants the Kimberley crowd to know just how much he values the game, how grateful he is for the opportunity to play, and how proud he feels to represent Sol Plaatje University Cricket Club.
His time at SPU has been both challenging and rewarding. Balancing academics with cricket has deepened his appreciation for both, allowing him to express his love for the game while pursuing his studies.
For Letlotlo, cricket is more than a sport. It is a platform to grow, inspire, and strive for excellence, with his journey only just beginning.
