WARRENTON'S Ikhutseng Stadium was the stage for a weekend of football brilliance as Sol Plaatje schools outclassed their regional rivals in the inter-municipal knockout competition against Dikgatlong, Phokwane, and Magareng.

Endeavour Primary School’s Under-13 boys were in unstoppable form, sweeping through their fixtures with ease. They cruised to a 5-0 victory in the semi-finals before sealing the title with a commanding 3-0 win in the final.

Not to be outdone, Kevin Nkoane Primary School’s girls’ team displayed grit and determination, edging their semi-final 1-0 before powering to a 3-0 win in the final to claim top honours.

Saturday’s high school Motsepe Foundation regional knockout games brought even more success for Sol Plaatje. Emmang Mmogo High School proved their class by winning their semi-final 3-2 in a thrilling encounter and then dispatching their opponents 3-0 in the final.

'We are leading the way'

“All three schools from Sol Plaatje Local Football Association once again stamped their authority and proved that when it comes to development, we are leading the way,” said Mbulelo Jack Junior, executive member of the local football association. “We thank the Motsepe Foundation for this initiative. It gives our kids the platform to showcase their talent. As President Mandela once said, ‘A child in sports is a child out of court.’ ”

With these victories, all three Sol Plaatje schools have booked their spots in the Provincial Knockout Tournament, set to take place on September 6 at Kimberley Boys’ High School. There, the best teams from all five districts will battle for the coveted chance to represent the region at the National Tournament.

The local football community now rallies behind these young stars as they prepare to take the next step in their journey, carrying with them the pride and hopes of Sol Plaatje.
