The SPU Ladies football team made a powerful return to the Sasol Women’s League this past weekend with back-to-back dominant victories, thrashing Power Boys Ladies FC 5–0 in Barkly West and routing Amakipkip FC 6–0 at home, in a performance reported by Sol Plaatje University that showcased their depth, hunger, and star players Patricia Mogapi and Patience Manyetsa.

The Sasol Women’s League resumed this past weekend, after a brief hiatus, and the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Ladies arrived with serious intent. In a powerful statement, the SPU Ladies got cracking with commanding, back-to-back victories that sent ripples through the league, and a clear message to those who will face them during the competition.
The first clash of the weekend, on Saturday, August 2, saw the SPU Ladies take on Power Boys Ladies FC at the Mataleng Stadium in Barkly West. From the outset, the SPU team asserted their authority on the field, controlling the tempo of the game and executing fluid attacking sequences that left their opponents reeling.
It was a clinical display, spearheaded by the in-form Patricia Mogapi, who proved unstoppable in front of goal, finding the back of the net four times. Her sharp movements and precise finishing stood out as she dismantled the Power Boys’ defence almost single-handedly.
Patience Manyetsa added a fifth goal, ensuring a convincing 5-0 win and a perfect start to the weekend.
Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday, August 3, the SPU Ladies returned to action on their home turf at the SPU Sports Precinct, hosting Amakipkip FC in what would become another showcase of their strength and momentum.
Once again, the SPU team came out with intensity, combining sharp build-up play and creative combinations to overwhelm their visitors. This time around, the goals were more evenly distributed, illustrating the depth and versatility within the squad.
Mogapi remained a key figure, netting two more goals and taking her weekend tally to a remarkable six. She was well supported by Patience Manyetsa, who also scored twice, continuing her consistent form from the previous day. Zanele Nkonki and Nombulelo Mahlangu each added a goal, sealing an emphatic 6-0 victory.
