Today, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and MTN South Africa are gearing up for an electrifying launch of the 2025 MTN8 tournament, a celebration of 18 seasons of elite football and intense rivalries.
This tournament is the first of the new season and invites the nation to witness the fierce competition among the top eight finishers from the previous season.
The opening round promises to be a spectacle of talent and determination. Defending champions Orlando Pirates FC will square off against Polokwane City in what many anticipate will be a thrilling clash in Saturday’s pipe-opener.
Meanwhile, seasoned giants Mamelodi Sundowns will take the fight to Richards Bay, adding to an already pulsating start to the tournament.
In other fixtures, Stellenbosch FC will battle it out with AmaZulu FC, while Sekhukhune United faces TS Galaxy, setting the stage for what could be some of the most memorable moments of the season.
Fans can expect surprises, heartbreaks, and exhilarating football as teams vie for not only the crown but for bragging rights that linger long after the final whistle.
Adding to the excitement this year is MTN’s commitment to elevating the competitive spirit with an increased prize pot. The prize money has jumped from R8 million to a remarkable R10 million, the cash prize awarded to the tournament’s winning team.
Among the participants, one dedicated supporter will have the chance to walk away with R1 million and earn the prestigious title of “MTN8 Last Fan Standing!”
But the MTN8 tournament is not solely about the on-pitch action; this year, it also aims to give back to the community. With every goal scored during regular play, MTN has launched the Goals for Charity initiative, where R20,000 will be donated towards a meaningful cause, ensuring that every thrilling moment contributes to making a positive impact off the pitch.
The competitive spirit extends beyond the players as the Last Journalist Standing initiative returns, where one outstanding journalist will be rewarded with R80,000 at the end of the season for their exceptional contributions and insights into the thrilling journey of the MTN8 tournament.
As the PSL and MTN prepare to host this year’s tournament, fans are ready to rally behind their teams, tapping into the deep-rooted rivalries that make South African football unique.
With an impressive prize pool and commitments to charitable causes, the 2025 MTN8 tournament promises to create unforgettable moments both on and off the field.
