The Frances Baard Regional Engen Knockout Challenge delivered an exciting day of football action this past weekend.

Hosted at the Sol Plaatje Local Football Association (SPLFA) grounds, the prestigious Inter-LFA tournament brought together promising youth teams from across the region, with local clubs battling for top honours and the chance to represent the region at the upcoming provincial tournament.

In the girl's division, Royal Wizards displayed dominant form throughout the day. They secured their place as overall winners thanks to a superior goal difference.

Their commanding victories included a 4-0 win over Power Boys and a remarkable 5-0 performance against Fast 11 Ladies. Although Fast 11 Ladies managed to beat Power Boys 3-1 in their match, it wasn’t enough to surpass the Wizards’ clinical edge in front of goal.

The boy's division also saw fierce competition.

Ritchie Young Stars and Nkuke FC played to a goalless draw in their opening fixture, but both teams came back strong in their next matches. Nkuke FC claimed a convincing 3-0 win over Paper City FC, while Ritchie Young Stars responded with a dominant 5-0 win over the same side.

In the end, Ritchie Young Stars topped the standings on goal difference, earning the right to represent the region.

Both Royal Wizards and Ritchie Young Stars are part of the Sol Plaatje LFA structure, making the host LFA proud as they now prepare to represent the Frances Baard Region at the Provincial Tournament scheduled for next month. The venue for the provincial leg is yet to be announced.

The Sol Plaatje LFA expressed their gratitude to all participating clubs and LFA leadership for their support in nurturing the region’s young football talent.

“We thank all clubs and their LFA's leadership who came through to support this initiative of these young future stars,” the SPLFA said in a statement.
