With the confirmation that the MTN8 quarter-final fixtures will take place in the first weekend of August, it means the new season of the Betway Premiership will begin a week later.
Though it made sense to announce the start of the new league season alongside the MTN8 fixtures, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has not done so.
Traditionally the league starts the week after the MTN8 matches, and therefore it would be a big surprise if the new season does not officially begin in its usual slot.
According to a Soccer Laduma report, Mamelodi Sundowns will begin their title defence with a trip to Buffalo City to play Chippa United on Saturday, August 9.
Orlando Pirates are also expected to be in action on the same date, as they welcome Sekhukhune United to Orlando Stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs are set to begin their campaign on Sunday, August 9, away to Stellenbosch FC.
It’s important to note these fixtures have not been officially confirmed, and could be subject to change.
On Thursday, Pirates played out to a goalless draw against Spanish outfit Las Palmas in their pre-season friendly match in Marbella.
Though neither side could find a goal in the encounter, there were chances for both teams to find a winner throughout the clash.
Perhaps the best of all the chances fell to Kabelo Dlaimini as he struck the crossbar from a free-kick just after the quarter-hour mark.
Over the weekend, Pirates drew 1-1 with Pafos FC.
Pirates will next be in action on Saturday against Granada, with the kick-off at 7pm which will be televised on SuperSport and streamed live on its YouTube channel.
