At this stage of the year, the rumour mill on player signings has reached fever pitch and it’s always Kaizer Chiefs which dominates these headlines.
As the most popular club in South Africa, Chiefs are in a constant battle to sign the best players, especially since they have now gone two seasons in a row without finishing in the top eight in the league.
Chiefs took a blow in the race for the top signatures of Oswin Appollis on Wednesday, as fellow Soweto Giants Orlando Pirates bagged the services of the winger.
However, Chiefs have confirmed the signing of Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva and Nkanyiso Shina ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old Chislett joins Chiefs from English League Two outfit Port Vale. The attacking midfielder could be a good fit for Chiefs in their quest to move up the table next season.
In Silva, Chiefs have gone for an experienced Portuguese striker. The 29-year-old has spent the last couple of seasons in Indonesia, the first coming for Persik Kediri as he scored 30 goals in 45 matches. His next move to Persebaya Surabya did not pan out well, and the change of scenery as he arrives at Naturena could make a big difference.
For Shinga, the move from FC Alverca in Portugal could also be a good one for the 25-year-old. The defender could prove especially vital for Chiefs were tied for the third worst defence in the Betway Premiership last season.
On the rumour front, Peter Shalulile, according to reports earlier in the week, had left Mamelodi Sundowns, opening the door for a move to Chiefs. Sundowns, though, on Wednesday rubbished those reports while confirming the Namibian striker was still under contract until 2027.
There were also murmurs that out-of-favour Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng may be making a move to Chiefs last month. However, there have been no concrete reports on this switch since, as the potential deal seems to have fizzled out.
