It was all action and adrenaline this past weekend when the New Champions Boxing Academy teamed up with Platinum Boxing and Fitness to host an exciting amateur boxing tournament.
Held at the Kimberley Health and Occupational Centre on Molyneaux Road, right in the heart of the Kimberley Ekapa Mines premises, the event drew passionate crowds and provided a stage for some of the province’s boxing talent to show their stuff.
Fighters from five boxing clubs – Tsantsabane, Home Defenders, Platinum Boxing Club, C4 Combat Centre, and Bokamoso Boxing Club – stepped into the ring to show what they’re made of. And they did not disappoint.
From the very first bell, fists were flying, feet were dancing, and the atmosphere was hot as music played and spectators cheered on the boxers.
Boxing action kept the crowd entertained throughout the day.

The turnout was good. An encouraging sign for the clubs, and the sport. With more than 100 eager spectators packing the venue, the energy in the air was right up there. Every jab, hook, and uppercut had the crowd either gasping or cheering.
It was a true celebration of grit, discipline, and heart, everything that makes boxing such a powerful and popular sport.
One of the standout features of the event was just how smoothly everything ran. The organisation was spot-on; the fights flowed without a hitch, and there were no unnecessary delays which could cause frustration for fans and fighters alike.
And while every fighter left their heart in the ring, two boxers rose above the rest.
Tumelo Morwaeng from Tsantsabane was named Best Male Boxer after putting on a masterclass in technique and power.
Equally impressive was Rorisang Poloholo from New Champions Boxing Academy, who was crowned Best Female Boxer. Her sharp footwork and fearless attitude won over the judges and the crowd, making her a firm fan favourite.
Both champions walked away with well-earned bragging rights.

Meanwhile, Brad Delport from Platinum Boxing and Fitness was all smiles after the event.
“This tournament was a celebration of boxing talent and the passion of our local clubs,” he said. “The energy in the arena was incredible, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.”
In the end, beyond the punches and trophies, what stood out most was the strong sense of community. The tournament proved that boxing in the Northern Cape is alive and well and growing stronger with every event.
