Boxing unity: Clubs team up for action-packed Kimberley tournament

Fists will fly, guards will be up, footwork will be fancy, and gloves will clash in Kimberley this weekend, as New Champions Boxing Academy and Platinum Boxing and Fitness Club join forces for a thrilling tournament showcasing rising local talent.

The tournament will take place at the Kimberley Health and Occupational Centre, located on Molyneaux Road within the Kimberley Ekapa Mines premises. The venue is expected to draw in boxing fans from across the region as it transforms into a battleground for some of the most promising boxers from across the Northern Cape and beyond.

Eight boxing clubs have confirmed their participation in the event:

• New Champions Boxing Academy
• Platinum Boxing and Fitness
• Freedom Boxing Club
• Home Defenders Boxing Club
• C4 Performance Combat
• Tsantsabane Boxing Club
• Hopetown Boxing Club
• Motaung Boxing Club

The tournament is set to feature a series of exciting bouts across various weight divisions, giving boxers the opportunity to test their mettle, gain experience, and earn respect in the ring.

Organisers say the collaboration between New Champions and Platinum Boxing and Fitness transcends the day's competition, as it will serve to also promote unity, discipline, and boost development in the local boxing scene.

“Boxing is growing in the Northern Cape, and this tournament is a platform for clubs and athletes to connect, compete, and uplift one another,” said Brad Delport from the organising committee. “We invite the public to come support the future champions of our sport.”

Entrance is a reasonable R30 for adults and R20 for students, making it an affordable family-friendly day of entertainment. Refreshments will also be on sale throughout the day.
