The nights and early mornings in Kimberley have been decidedly chilly, but thankfully the days have been sunny and remarkably pleasant – warm, with a cool, refreshing breeze.
And it’s in these practically ideal conditions that the Kimberley Harriers Road Running Club have been taking their time trail runs along their routes through the city.
This week, on Tuesday, May 27, a comparatively small group of just nine of the club’s runners managed to get that window of time to lace up their running shoes and get onto the road.
There’s no doubt that they are the envy of their club mates who will feel that they missed out on a perfect opportunity on another perfect day. Odds are that the next run will be seeing more soles on the tar, but that’s just a hunch.
Competing against no one but themselves, the runners posted times ranging from “burn my lungs and make me sweat” to “now THAT was refreshing”.
The next run takes place next Tuesday which, if we can trust the weatherman, is looking like a pleasant 22 degree Celcius, partly cloudy day with a light breeze … another perfect day for a run, and a day certainly to be taken advantage of.
Tuesday’s official times are:
(4km): 19:06 Glynn Fly; 19:44 Hayden Pinetown; 21:18 Jan Greeff; 22:51 Ria Janse v Vuuren; 22:51 Erika Smith; 24:12 David Janse v Vuuren; 24:12 Ally Ontong; 27:28 Lebo Nyokong; 30:19 Lempe Shai
