Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will meet in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon. As it is the last Soweto Derby of the season, and there's silverware at stake, we look at what the clash will mean for both teams.

Pirates chasing a record

Orlando Pirates will become the first team to win the Nedbank Cup in three successive finals, if they beat Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Saturday (kick-off 3.30pm). Their successive wins is also equal to SuperSport United, who won the Cup back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.

Chiefs want to end a drought

Kaizer Chiefs are the most successful team in the country’s premier club knockout competition after winning 13 crowns since their establishment in 1970.

They need to win the crown for the 14th time not only to etch their names in the history books, but to end a 10-year trophy drought.

Riveiro, Nabi chase redemption

Jose Riveiro remains one of the most successful coaches in the Nedbank Cup, but winning the final could also ensure he wins the derby for a record sixth time in a row.

That won’t be easy though. His Kaizer Chiefs counterpart, Nasreddine Nabi, is also eyeing his first crown in local football.

Moses Mabhida is a historic place

Moses Mabhida Stadium has hosted some historic clashes for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in cup competitions.

Chiefs’ hopes of winning a cup were dashed when they lost to TS Galaxy in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final, while Pirates have won their last four MTN8 crowns at the same venue.

Chiefs, Pirates to save the season

Kaizer Chiefs run the risk of missing out on the Top 8 in the Betway Premiership,  and that’s why they want to go all the way in the Nedbank Cup.

Orlando Pirates’ title hopes, meanwhile, seem to have dried up as they trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by a huge gap. Hence, they’ll find consolation in winning the Nedbank Cup.

For both teams, there is everything to play for.
